Kane embark on huaka'i in preparation for Merrie Monarch 2010

altIn preparation for the upcoming Merrie Monarch Hula Competition, the kane of Halau I Ka Wekiu will be going on a huaka'i around the ahupua'a of Waialua.  The purpose of this journey is to help both the students and kumu further understand and comprehend the meaning of their mele kahiko.  The huaka'i begins in Kamananui, continues on to Kukaniloko, Pa'ala'a, and Ka'ena Point then finally ends up in Waimea.  Merrie Monarch 2010--here we go!!

Kiara Wheeler competes for Miss Aloha Hula 2009In 2009 the women of Halau I Ka Wekiu went up to compete in Hilo. We have now updated our Gallery with pictures of the Miss Aloha hula performance by Kiara Wheeler, and performances by the women in their hula kahiko and hula 'auana.
